Galicia finally gets its much needed rain
Having been ravaged by forest fires throughout the summer, Galicia finally saw some rain in the second week of October. It had been forecast for about a week and hit the whole of Spain.
Although fires in the Iberian peninsula were given world wide coverage in respect of Portugal, the damage to Galicia went largely unnoticed from an international stand point. The fires were however very severe and the damage to forestation and wildlife has been significant.
Looking further a field, Spain as a whole has suffered a major drought this summer and, in some central regions, water has actually been rationed. In some cases this rationing has led to mains water only being available for eight out of the days twenty four hours.
