Holiday Autos - review (July and August 2005)
We have used Holiday Autos on several visits to Galicia. Each time we have picked up our hire car at Santiago de Compostela international airport, where all the major rental companies have branches.
About Holiday Autos
Holiday Autos are really a facilitator and whilst you book and pay for your car with them, it will be a third party company who actually supply it. Holiday Autos have a large number of rental partners and there can be more than one at each airport. You will need to check your rental agreement before arrival to make sure you know which desk to check in at.
At the time of booking you will not generally be aware of who your vehicle supplier will be.
The advantages of using this company can be summed up by saying that they are the worlds largest and cheapest car rental organisation. Additionally, you can sort out nearly all aspects of your booking and payment in advance and features like collision damage waver and one free extra driver are included (in the price) for most destinations.
- Do be aware of a daily excess charge though (this prevents you from having to pay an initial amount in the event of damage). If you decide you want this, you may have to pay it locally and it will be several Euros per day. See our Jet2 suggestion for overcoming this charge on the page from which you accessed this one.
Problems
We have yet to have any real problems with Holiday Autos or their partners. There are English (and I think French) speaking staff at most of the airport rental outlets and at Santiago de Compostela, Holiday Autos’ current partner appears to be Hertz.
Most of the Hertz cars are only a few months old, but do check for damage to the rental car yourself before you leave the airport. We have a hundred percent record when it comes to finding damage on the car, but not included on the hire docket or rental agreement. If you find this to be the case, return to the desk and get the damaged you have spotted noted and authorized.
We have yet to experience any problems on vehicle return, although you must ensure that (with Hertz) you bring your car back with the fuel tank full.
In the event of a problem that cannot be resolved with Holiday Autos’ local partner, obtain as much information as possible (photos etc) and contact them on your return.
If you have any experiences, good or bad, with any of the rental companies in Galicia, please let us know and we will make the information available to all our visitors.
